The Beginning of the End of Donald Trump

This week saw the conviction of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort on five counts of tax fraud, two counts of bank fraud, and one count of failure to disclose a foreign bank account.

Simultaneously,Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen pled guilty to five counts of tax evasion, one count of making a false statement to a financial institution, one count of willfully causing an unlawful corporate contribution from June 2016 to October 2016, and one count of making an excessive campaign contribution on October 27 2016. These last three counts involved Cohen making false statements to obtain funds to pay off at least two women who had had affairs with Trump in order to silence them before the election, with the Trump Organization and Trump Trust reimbursing Cohen — all federal crimes. In his court testimony, Cohen explicitly said he committed the three final counts at the direction and behalf of Donald Trump, then running for president in the 2016 elections.

Donald Trump is now an “unindicted co-conspirator” in three felony crimes against the US Government. The walls of justice, reinforced by a free press, are closing in on him and it is now only a matter of time before he, like Richard Nixon, resigns from office or faces impeachment. It is no longer a question of if, it is only a question of when. This is the beginning of the end for Donald Trump. The key to the timeline is now up to the Republicans waking up to the obvious and the results of the November elections.

Remember what happened to Nixon? The Watergate break-in occurred in June 1972. A civil lawsuit was filed by the Democratic Party that very week but few gave it any chance of success. Nixon was so popular he went on to win the 1972 election in November with the largest majority of electoral votes in the history of the United States. But the wheels of justice kept rolling, reinforced by a free press, led back then by the New York Times and the Washington Post. Finally on March 1, 1974, a grand jury indicted seven former Nixon aides on various aspects of the Watergate break-in and, unsure whether they could indict a sitting president, named Nixon as an “unindicted co-conspirator.” It was at this moment that Nixon’s support among Republicans began to unravel.

The grand jury ordered Nixon to hand over the tapes he had been making of his conversations in the Oval Office. Nixon refused. The case went all the way to the US Supreme Court which in July 1974 ordered Nixon to hand them over. The tapes were explicitly incriminating and the Republican controlled House of Representatives voted to impeach the president for obstruction of justice, abuse of power, criminal cover-up, and several violations against the Constitution. On August 8, 1974 Nixon resigned.

We are now with Trump where we were after the grand jury called Nixon an unindicteld co-conspirator, five months before Nixon resigned. That is what just happened with Michel Cohen. In addition to the charges against Nixon, all of which apply to Trump, one should add treason and acting as a foreign agent for Russia, specifically for Vladimir Putin. Trump has been money laundering for Russian oligarchs for many years which is a major way he props up his faltering businesses and the reason he is so compliant to Putin’s will. This was patently obvious for all the world to see at their recent Summit in Helsinki. Putin, not Trump, directs Trump.

Trump has now been explicitly named in court, under oath by his personal lawyer of over a dozen years, as complicit in federal crimes. This is the beginning of the end of his presidency and the beginning of the beginning of the re-establishment of the rule of law in the democratic experiment that is the United States.
