Microcourse Description:
This microcourse on teambuilding and collaboration is designed to provide you with the understanding, structures, values, and resources that you need to successfully create and work in teams. This microcourse will look at what makes teamwork effective, as well as some of the reasons teams can stumble and fall apart. We will cover the various types of teams and how to know when to use each kind of team to best achieve your overall goals. We will also address why communication and clarity are important and examine the role team leaders have in ensuring their teams live up to their full potential.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this microcourse you should be able to:
- Identify the core attributes of a successful team and knowledge of where teams go wrong.
- Understand the various types of teams and how each can be utilized to meet the needs of the team.
- Understand the human factor that comes into teams.

Trevor S. Mitchell, MBA, CAE
Bio:
Trevor Mitchell, MBA, CAE is the Executive Director/CEO, of American Mensa, Ltd. and the Mensa Foundation. Trevor provides leadership toward the achievement of the organization’s mission, vision, strategy, and annual goals and objectives. Trevor works with both boards in developing strategies which support the mission, developing and implementing the strategic goals and objectives of American Mensa, and enabling the board to fulfill its governance function effectively. Primary focus as Executive Director is to grow membership and donors, focus on non-dues revenue growth opportunities, represent the organization in all media outlets positively and professionally, and ensure that resources are aligned to meet the strategic needs of the organization. In this role and several others, Trevor has been responsible for establishing and motivating teams to achieve established goals that align with the organization’s strategy. Trevor earned the Certified Association Executive Designation in 2012. Trevor is a graduate of Columbia College in Missouri, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in marketing and management and completed his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in May 2016.
