Go Deep to Go Far

Graduate Degrees in Modern Mysticism

Ubiquity University is partnering with Sacred Balance to offer learners the opportunity to earn graduate degrees (MA, PhD, DMin, MA/PhD) in Modern Mysticism.

Sacred Balance is a non-denominational spiritual community offering independent minister training in the Christian Mystical tradition.

Over 3 years, the training is offered for those devoted to the Way of the Christ and the transformative process of sacraments, initiations and ordinations. Those called to serve in ministry may train for the Diaconate and may apply for further training in the Priesthood. Ministers may go on to serve congregations, officiate at weddings, funerals, baby blessings, and offer the sacraments of Communion, Absolution, Baptism, Marriage, and Last Rites. All ministers are ordained in the independent sacramental tradition, which allows them to serve according to their calling and as the spirit guides them.

Ubiquity University, in partnership with Sacred Balance, is delighted to offer those that have followed the three-year core program an opportunity to develop their own unique and well-researched contribution to the field in the form of a higher education degree.

We recommend that your program begins with Ubiquity’s Creative Journey to Dissertation course, which will give you the tools to shape, and eventually write your thesis or dissertation. You will then complete your coursework with Sacred Balance, and return again to Ubiquity for the higher education credential.

About The Program

Students working with Sacred Balance will need to complete the following 3 year training program.

Year 1: Spiritual Direction / Novice Training

A novice is trained in the practices of meditation and prayer and dedicates themselves to regularly attending services and receiving sacraments. The novice works with a priest to review their life, transform through the power of forgiveness and grace, and accept the initiation of mystical baptism.

Year 2: Deaconate Training

The first level of ministry includes apprenticing with a priest or bishop in the care of the congregation and the chapel. The first level of ministry also requires preparation for and reception of the initiation of illumination, as well as a life vow in service to God and humanity. Sacred Balance trains independent ministers who are not tied to any denomination or group- not even the Sacred Balance community. Once ordained, if a deacon desires to continue study and spiritual growth toward the priesthood ordination, further training in the movement of spiritual energy will be required. , Priest candidates will focus on spiritual practices leading to the initiation of self-realization, or awareness of the divine in their own being.

Year 3: Priest Training

Training for the priesthood includes further experience and guidance in relating to the inner divine and disciplined practice of the energetic and mystical arts of moving energy through the sacraments and initiations. This second level of ministry requires eternal vows in service to God and humanity. The Mystical Christian Priest is one who vows all lifetimes to working toward the raising of human consciousness and the restoration of every human soul to atonement or oneness with the Divine. The Priest Ordination marks the completion of the ministerial training at Sacred Balance, though some may be raised up into the bishopric.

The Ubiquity Graduate Degree

The Ubiquity Graduate Program combines the US and European designs of graduate programs with a blend of taught learning with research and writing. The thesis or dissertation must demonstrate excellence at every level. It must show awareness of the history of the literature in your particular area; demonstrate careful analysis and understanding of the field in question; and, most importantly, show how your insight can be applied to the real world. The dissertation must be scholarly and utilize extensive bibliographical data and footnotes. It should, in other words, be an impeccable work of research.

The Creative Journey To Dissertation

It is a 1-week intensive designed by our Dean of Graduate Studies Dr. Gyorgyi Szabo. The course is a critical part of the dissertation writing process and is a requirement for all MA/PhD candidates.
